Unlock More Business By Understanding Your Client’s Journey

How well do you really know your clients?

Can you pinpoint their intentions, understand what motivates them, and list their problems, pain points and concerns? Most importantly, do you know why they are choosing your business over a competitor?

Delving deeper into your client’s needs, challenges, and interactions might seem overwhelming—or even unnecessary. You might prefer to focus on running your salon, regardless of who walks through the door. However, understanding every client’s experience at each stage of their journey is crucial. The insights you gain can transform into a powerful strategy that significantly improves your business.

The Six Key Stages of Your Client’s Journey

Awareness – Your potential client has a problem that needs solving. They become aware of your business—perhaps through an online search, an advertisement, or a recommendation from a satisfied customer.

Consideration – They contemplate using your services. They might explore your website, browse your social media profiles, or visit your premises. During this stage, they also compare you with competitors, considering factors like pricing and special offers.

Acquisition – Congratulations! They decide to become your client and commit to purchasing your product or service.

Experience – Now it’s time to assess the experience they had with you. How did it go? Did they achieve the outcome they wanted? Did you effectively solve their problem?

Retention – The goal is for your client to return and continue purchasing your products or services. How will you encourage them to choose you again? Implementing loyalty programs or personalised follow-ups can be effective strategies.

Advocacy – Ultimately, they leave a glowing 5-star review and recommend your business to friends and family—who then begin their own customer journeys with you.

Step Into Their Shoes

By putting yourself in your client’s shoes at each stage, you can closely examine their experience and identify areas for improvement. For example:

  • Missed Communications: If a client calls to book an appointment and no one answers, how likely are they to try again?
  • Website Usability: If they can’t find the product or service they want on your website, will they look elsewhere?

Consider how your client would feel if they didn’t receive the product or service they expected. Are you prepared to address their concerns and offer solutions?

Build Long-Lasting Relationships

By examining and refining each step of the client journey, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of your clients’ needs. This enables you to create a smoother, more satisfying experience that fosters long-term relationships. When you focus on the journey, you and your clients can travel the path to success together.
