Hello, a little bit about me! I was born and brought up in Stornoway within the setting of the family business, Charles Macleod butchers, who make the world-famous Stornoway Black Pudding. Spent much of my teenage years working in the shop and I was also a waitress in a local hotel, and those two after school/weekend jobs are where I learned all my best and most valuable workplace skills.
Like many island youngsters before me I headed of to “The Mainland” to finish the degree I had started in the Lews Castle College and settled in Glasgow for 6 years working in marketing roles for shipping company Acomarit and Deloitte accountants. A great fun time was had as a 20-something living in the fab West End of Glasgow! The Millenium year 2000 saw me heading North to Aberdeen where I worked again in marketing for Stronachs Solictors and then on to the oil and gas sector to work in business development. During my 10 years stay in Aberdeen I learned so much not just about marketing and business development, but I also took up a second career in Human Resources and qualified as a Chartered Member of the CIPD in 2011. Since then, I have loved being able to work in both fields, marketing and HR and working with small businesses this comes in very handy.
It was time for me to return “Home” in 2009 when my beautiful nephew Paul was born, followed by my lovely niece Beth, and I just love being here and seeing them every day. I know I’m living the dream I always had to be back on my lovely island, surrounded by family and friends and doing a job I love.
The job I know and love so well started in 2009 through my first venture into the world of self-employment, and in 2011 Diane and I took the plunge and started working together on projects. We’ve been together ever since and just love the diversity of our work both here on the islands and across the UK too. Lockdown has opened up the potential for us to work with clients anywhere regardless of their or our location and we are so thankful for that. For me its amazing to be able to take all that I learned in my work experience in the corporate world and combine that with the real-life experience of starting a business from scratch and it still being here 10 years later. The most rewarding part of that is learning by experience and knowing that what we do makes a big difference to the clients that we work with. To me that’s a great business – living the life that you love, with the people that you love and the work you are good at doing!

Hi, I’m Diane. 😃
Like Claire, I was born and brought up in Stornoway and I too headed off to ‘The Mainland’ and settled in Edinburgh for almost 10 years, first attending College to study Business Administration and then on to working with organisations such as Scottish Provident, Edinburgh University and Oracle in a variety of senior administrative and support roles.
The pull was strong to move back home to the Isle of Lewis though and I returned in 1999 and worked in both the private and public sector, in senior support and management roles. In 2008 I set up my own virtual PA company and ran that successfully with national and international clients working remotely with development support in marketing, administrative and back office processes.
Working together with Claire in Orbit is where we both shine though. It has allowed us to work with the most amazing people and organisations and to help them flourish and thrive is so incredibly rewarding. We love sharing our knowledge and experience and are driven to help business owners succeed and bring the results they dream of!
